Mission

Our mission is to meet people where they are and help them get where they want to be by providing training, education, programs, and mentorship. We use storytelling, creative expression, and community-based initiatives to support mental wellness, suicide prevention, and personal growth.

Vision

Where We Meet, Inc. envisions a world where veterans, trauma survivors, and individuals from Black and Brown communities have access to creative, culturally responsive mental health support. Through the power of theatre, arts, education, and mentorship, we strive to foster healing, resilience, and empowerment.

History

Founded on August 27, 2020, Where We Meet, Inc. was created to address the lack of accessible mental health resources for marginalized communities, particularly veterans and trauma survivors. Achieving 501(c)(3) status in 2021, the organization has since partnered with local theatres, mental health professionals, and community groups to provide innovative programs that break stigmas and foster holistic healing.

Embodiment

We recognize the mind-body connection and the power of embodiment in healing. Our programs encourage individuals to engage with their bodies, express themselves physically, and cultivate mindfulness through creative arts, movement, and wellness practices. By embodying healing, individuals can reconnect with themselves and reclaim their sense of agency and empowerment.

Our Story

Founded on August 27, 2020, Where We Meet, Inc. was created by Nekohl Johnson and co-founder Alex Mallory with a vision to bridge the gap between mental health support and creative expression. As an Army veteran, Nekohl saw firsthand the need for safe spaces where veterans, trauma survivors, and individuals from Black and Brown communities could heal through storytelling, performance, and community engagement. In 2021, we achieved 501(c)(3) status, allowing us to expand our impact and develop innovative programs tailored to those who need them most.

Since then, we have launched veteran-focused theater programs that aid in trauma recovery and help with the transition to civilian life. Our partnerships with Piven Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre, Sertoma Centre, and other organizations have enabled us to bring workshops, performances, and mental health education to underserved communities. Through collaboration, advocacy, and the arts, we continue to break stigmas and create meaningful opportunities for healing and growth.
